The Madrid Bar Association has launched a program that aims to care for the mental health of lawyers in the region. “The pandemic has left obvious consequences on the mental health of the population at a general level and the legal profession has not been spared from it,” explains the vice dean of the Madrid Bar Association, Isabel Winkels. They are especially concerned about the incidence of suicides and addictions among lawyers . At a general level, in recent years, the numbers of deaths by suicide ha Whatsapp Number List ve broken one record after another, exceeding 4,000 deaths annually according to the latest data . Some of the common elements in suicide cases occur in many lawyers: hopelessness, high levels of stress, tension, precariousness, vital instability. If suicide is a reflection of structural deficiencies, the situation that a part of the legal profession is going through can set off alarm bells. Suicide cases are the tip of the iceberg. Mental health suffers much earlier and it seems clear that “ a lawyer who is unwell will not be able to advise or accompany a client through his difficulties,” as Winkels points out in conversation with Economist & Jurist. Preventing and addressing these situations is the objective of “ICAM Wellbeing”, a program that aims to address the well-being and mental health of the Madrid legal profession and the College's employees.
