I am a big fan of the New Rules of Lifting books by Lou Schuler with workouts by Alwyn Cosgrove. I found both books to be very well written with great workout routines and progressions. Perfect for new lifters or experienced lifters looking for new workouts. These books are the next best thing to working directly with a trainer. The workouts from both books can be used interchangeably by men and women. I have personally used some of the routines from the women's book with some of my male clients with great results.
